Studio & Contemporary Ceramics
The collecting of Modern British art and Modern British ceramics has been interwoven for decades. Since the earliest days of Bernard Leach's pioneering pottery in St.Ives in the 1920s to the present day. The collectors of both new and historical work in each discipline have frequently spread their net wider. Be that coffee from a Lucie Rie set, a magnificent sculptural work by Hans Coper or Gordon Baldwin on the mantelpiece or a distillation of Japanese tradition and techniques in a vessel by Hamada Shoji, the works of these early masters have been developed further by the ceramics artists working today, challenging the very fundamentals of the art form.
As long-standing collectors ourselves, we felt it was an important parallel to our involvement in the market for Modern British art to be able to offer to our clients examples of work by ceramicists whose work we find exciting.
